Transparent Wallpapers – Share Yours

Based on suggestions, I’ve moved the transparent wallpapers to a dedicated site www.transparentwallpaper.net (much easier to remember! :D). This way it’s quicker to access all the wallpapers, so update your bookmarks and share the link! You can continue posting your pictures here and I’ll transfer them to the website. Please let me know if you want your name credited and provide a link to your Twitter/Blog.

Here’s a hint: if you save the pics from this page, they won’t work. You need to click on it to see it full-size, then save from there. Then email/preview/set as wallpaper will be ok. Worked on my Samsung Focus.

On a side note. For those of you who are creating wallpapers what emphasize text locations, text moves down and up automatically depending on calendar entry size (or the lack there of). So, there is no real template other than encompassing the whole text area (not line by line).

Yeah. I love that wallpaper and when I thought of the possibilities with the black and white aspect it blew my mind. Especially since transparency will be rendered as black it just makes it even better!
I was thinking of adding some lines to make the time, calendar, and events be compartmentalized like some wallpapers out there but figured for now the black looks best.
I agree. I think the minimalistic approach in this gives it that extra ‘pop’ and the black muzzle/bullet looks awesome.

Thanks for the image, but it seems to have converted to JPEG. To keep transparency, the file has to be saved as PNG files.

Had the idea for a shattered screen. Came up with this one.

hmmm i love the idea /seen the videos..
but my LG quantum from bell here in canada won’t do it?
I tried emailing my self/uploading to sky drive/browseing +save…
all 3 methods/setas wall paper and it does not do it? anyone here get it working on the lg quantum or is it just this phone that it wont work on?

Here’s my modded wallpaper.
NOTE: I did not make this wallpaper picture, all I did was make it trasnperent because I REALLY like it and want to keep it as my wallpaper for good.

the wallpaper itself i lessened the opacity maybe not enough?

i exported it so i don’t know but i think around 80 or 70 something most likely 80
Try reducing it to around 60 or 70. If you’re using Gimp, this bit in my video (should start around 2:18) shows where to set the transparency value. Also remember, your background layer should be transparent (not sure if that makes a difference if the entire image’s opacity is changed) but my images are created with a transparent background layer.

Aha, this works now. You might want to make the image a bit wider (480px) because the far left of the image is completely transparent, so there’s a vertical bar of pure transparency. Not sure if this is intended though?
glad to hear it, and the reason it doesn’t fill the space i wanted the stage 2 b pronounced so i made the background narrower. and only 2 the left? both sides should be fully transparent
No, you’re right, both sides are transparent. I’m running the dark theme, so the right hand side transparency mainly showed the plain black edge so I thought it was solid black. Looking at it again, it’s transparent on both sides. Running on the light theme shows the transparency more as the white area can clearly be seen :). Good job!

One for the Eastwood fans :D. I tried it on my phone and it work perfectly. When I first saw the image, I thought only the sky bit near the top was going to become transparent. However, I like the fact that when it’s not transparent, it’s a complete image that doesn’t look like it’s going to become see through.

Hi, thank you for this post.
I emailed you some wallpapers I made from images I found on google search.
I take no credit for the original pictures.
This was my first experience with transparent layers on Paint.net, and it was fun.
Many of the wallpapers I sent you are duplicated.
In some cases I made the entire images 50% transparent.
In the duplicate, I made the background image 50% transparent, leaving the foreground image 100% opaque (which is my preference).
As you can see, I enjoy comic book and video game wallpaper. The city skyline and the farm were the first two I made for practice.
I hope other people enjoy these wallpapers as much as I have these last few weeks.
Again thanks for this post, and thanks to everyone who made a wallpaper. I’ve used several of them.

i noticed that when you have the lock screen with PIN the transparancy scrambles the display is anyone else seeing this

Unfortunately, this is a known issue with Mango. I haven’t found a fix to this yet. The closest thing is to design the image so that any blurring looks as if it’s part of the image. Here are some examples.
Too bad WP8 does not allow this anymore 😦
