Four years is a long time, and with the potential changes that could occur, it’s difficult to accurately predict what the market will look like. Having said that, IDC have released their smartphone market share prediction and it shows that Windows Phone 7 will have the second largest marketshare (behind Android) with 20.9%. You can see the table below:

Worldwide Smartphone Operating System 2011 and 2015 Market Share and 2011-2015 CAGR (listed alphabetically)

Operating System

2011 Market Share 2015 Market Share 2011-2015 CAGR
Android 39.5% 45.4% 23.8%

The huge predicted increase in market share has come about because of the deal with Nokia. It will be interesting to see if this prediction actually comes true, but it’s certainly an exciting time for WP7.
